The Broncos’ plan for a privately funded stadium at Burnham Yard has prompted changes for Denver Water. The utility has historic operations on the site and will need to move support facilities such as maintenance and warehouse functions to clear the way for construction. Denver Water clarified that relocation expenses will not be covered by ratepayer funds. All costs for new facilities, land acquisition, and construction will be paid for by the Broncos and city partners. The main administration building that houses more than 1,200 employees will remain in place, giving workers reassurance that their jobs are secure. This is significant as other local city departments have faced cuts in recent years. The confirmed relocation is also expected to generate further job expansion in the area. Supporting new facilities and the surrounding development will bring additional work opportunities and extend the economic impact beyond football. The move is the result of months of collaboration between the Broncos ownership group, Denver Water, city officials, and the governor’s office. Leaders on all sides have stressed the importance of protecting water service for more than 1.5 million residents while still enabling one of the city’s largest redevelopment projects. Denver Water CEO Alan Salazar emphasized continuity of operations while board president Stephanie Donner pointed to the shared civic opportunity. Both expressed confidence that the transition will support Denver’s growth without undermining essential public services.
