The indictment lists twenty two counts tied to threats delivered by phone and online. Prosecutors say the messages included violent language and specific warnings about harm to Mondani and his family. There were references to explosives. There were instructions to start a car and see what happens. There was an explicit desire for lethal harm. The calls came from untraceable numbers over June and July according to the case file. Police arrested Jeremy Fistel in Plano. He was held for a week in Texas then extradited to New York with help from the United States Marshals Service and the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force. In court the judge set cash bail at thirty thousand. His attorney said he plans to return to Texas while awaiting the next appearance on November nineteenth. The charges include four counts of making a terroristic threat as a hate crime, four counts of making a terroristic threat, seven counts of aggravated harassment in the second degree as a hate crime, and seven counts of aggravated harassment in the second degree. That is a clear signal from prosecutors. Direct targeted threats at a named public figure cross the line into criminal conduct. This is the divide that matters. Heated arguments online can sit inside the protections of free speech. Direct threats are different. When a person deliberately calls a candidate office, leaves violent voicemails, and posts messages promising harm, that becomes a law and order issue. It is specific. It is purposeful. It carries intent and creates fear. That is why the task force exists and why extradition moved quickly. If the goal is to prevent political violence, these are the exact cases that deserve priority. Monitor and act on explicit threats delivered to named individuals and their families. Draw the bright line where the law already draws it. That is how you protect the public square while keeping real danger in check.
